- The ultimate goal of this project is to manage water resources more efficiently, increase product

Workers pose for photographers during the remediation monte design of irrigation channel in Andhra Pradesh earlier this week. The state has developed 23 major irrigation systems, 60 medium and 60 000 small irrigation for agriculture. Delayed monsoon makes it possible to work with patches down the canal. - If countries like China and India are not self-sufficient in food will cause vibration globally. It also has our own food security to do, says Agriculture Minister Trygve Slagsvold Vedum to forskning.no.
Vedum participated this week in a ceremony that opened the Norwegian-Indian joint project ClimaAdapt. It took place in the metropolis of Hyderabad, capital city of Andhra Pradesh and otherwise monte design known as a spearhead of India's IT industry.
Andhra Pradesh is among the many areas of the world where agriculture may be affected by climate change. The vital rain that comes with the monsoon is crucial for millions of small farmers.
Besides Andhra Pradesh, monte design the project also measures in neighboring Tamil Nadu. Together, the two states of 160 million monte design inhabitants. The majority are farmers. They represent monte design an important part of India's rice production. monte design
The goal is to connect research, farmers and government guidance set in the most effect way. Villages monte design like to try out new ideas to the autumn recruited on a voluntary basis.
Nagothu emphasizes that farmers and management must be integrated. The work does not start from scratch. Bioforsk has for several years participated in the research of more climate resilient agriculture in India.

Venkata monte design Reddy (far right), on how the farmers get water. The local water tray has not collected monte design enough rain water for many years. In good years, farmers can harvest two rice crops a year. Many farmers have this year, however, had to give up the first crop because the rain is overdue.
A large number of groundwater monte design wells are drilled. Wells can not replace the large irrigation monte design facilities that India has built up in the years after the country gained independence from British rule.
This year, the monsoon did not come as normal. The large reservoirs have not enough water and canals that normally go as life-giving blood vessels through the landscape is dry.
Local farmers in Andra Pradesh went last man of the house to meet Agriculture Minister Trygve Vedum and hear the action for climate resilient agriculture. (Photo: Asle Rønning) This has been tested in several projects with Norwegian monte design participation in India. Last year's results by experiments on a small scale show a significant reduction monte design in water consumption and improve farm profitability.
- The ultimate goal of this project is to manage water resources more efficiently, increase productivity and combat the effects of climate change, says Kota Tirupataiah, director of WALAMTARI to forskning.no.

WALAMTARI is a subdivision of the Ministry of Irrigation in Andhra Pradesh. From a Norwegian perspective it might be strange to a whole department for irrigation in a state. However, this is not so strange.
Andhra Pradesh alone has an annual budget for investments and maintenance of dams and canal systems of over one billion. 20, 000 engineers ensures miles of small and large channels monte design bringing water into the countryside in many parts of the state.
India is well on its way to becoming the world's most populous country, and is expected to have 1.6 billion
