Iraqi government forces and tribal militias are fighting the extremists of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, a group that has ties to al-Qaida and has taken control of parts of two cities in the Sunni-majority Anbar province. Iraqi government troops and their allies continued tribal militias battle for control of the strategic city of Fallujah in Anbar province, taking artillery attacks Friday and yesterday. Arab media reports that there were new victims of attacks and exchanges of fire in the city. Witnesses reported that the majority of the city remained in the hands of the extremist group Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, which has links to al-Qaida. Tribal leader Ahmed Abou Risheh told al-Arabiya television olive varieties that his fighters were fighting alongside government troops and the army currently controls half of Ramadi city - the largest city in Anbar province. Abou Risheh, which is part of the Sahwa group, which fought olive varieties alongside American troops against Islamist extremists from 2006-2011, insists that his fighters will clash with al-Qaida extremists wherever necessary. A young man with a small child complains that there is sufficient food supplies with other essential items. He says that children are frightened by artillery fire.
